Corker says he hasn’t read tax bill after saying he’d vote for it: IBTimes

Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) told the International Business Times that he hadn’t read the full GOP tax bill before announcing that he would vote for it, the news outlet reported Saturday.

Corker told the International Business Times that he had only read a two-page summary of the plan before agreeing to back it. He had previously voted against the Senate version of the bill.

{mosads}“I had like a two-page summary I went through with leadership. I never saw the actual text,” he said.

Corker was also responding to a report by the International Business Times that found that the GOP tax bill includes a provision that would reduce the tax on income brought in by real-estate limited liability companies (LLCs).

The International Business Times reported that Corker would benefit from the provision, which was added shortly before he decided to vote for the bill. The senator owns several commercial real-estate properties and made up to $7 million from real-estate LLCs last year.

Corker reportedly criticized the provision to the news outlet before calling back and saying he needed more time to study the language.

“I don’t really know what the provision does to be honest. I would need an accountant to explain it,” he said.

“I had no knowledge of this and would have no knowledge of it except for you guys are calling me about it. I have no idea whatsoever whether it impacts me or doesn’t impact me.”
