    You can get free legal information by:

    Our phone line is in high demand. We appreciate your patience if you are put on hold.

    We will listen to your problem and may be able to give you general legal information. We’ll also tell you about our services and how to access them.

    We will arrange a legal advice session with a lawyer if your problem is more serious and you meet our eligibility criteria. You can get legal advice over the phone or by visiting one of our offices around Queensland.

    Youth Legal Advice Hotline

    Young people (under 18 or people with a Childrens Court matter) can talk to a lawyer and get free and confidential legal advice about:

    • their legal rights
    • bail
    • diversionary options
    • getting legal representation
    • being charged with an offence
    • applying for legal aid
    • concerns about talking to police
    • other youth justice issues.

    Call the Youth Legal Advice Hotline on 1800 LAQ LAQ (1800 527 527):

    • Monday to Thursday 8am to 9pm
    • Friday 8am to Sunday 5pm (except for Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Christmas Day).

    Counselling Notes Protect

    A legal service for sexual assault counselling notes privilege. Call 1300 267 762.

    Disaster Legal Help line

    We can help with legal issues you may face if you’ve been affected by a bushfire, cyclone, storm, flood or severe weather. Call 1300 527 700.

    Questions about a legal aid application

    For questions about an existing application for legal aid call 1300 383 900.

    Help for people with hearing or speech difficulties

    If you are deaf or have a hearing or speech impairment, you can contact us using the National Relay Service. To make a call go to the National Relay Service website and ask for 1800 998 980.

    Get help in your language

    If you need to organise an interpreter in your language, call the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS) on 13 14 50. Ask them to contact Legal Aid Queensland on 1800 998 980.

    Call costs

    Local call costs apply for landlines within Australia. Mobiles will likely be charged full call rates by your service provider. If you can, call us back from a landline, where you’ll only be charged for the cost of a local call.
