Kelowna Falcons

Players To Watch

A pair of Falcons’ alumni have been touted as “College Baseball Players to Watch” in 2018 by the annual issue of Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

Vinny Esposito (pictured) helped the 2015 Falcons reach the West Coast League (WCL) championship series for the first time in 11 seasons.  The infielder was just a freshman during that magical summer and hit .265 in 113 plate appearances in the regular season and collected 28 hits, four doubles, three homeruns and 15 RBIs.  During the playoff run he was outstanding hitting .368 with three doubles and three RBIs in five games.

He returns to Sacramento State University and will open his senior season next month where he will be looked upon to lead the Hornets in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).

Ian Dawkins was instant offence for the Falcons last season homering in his first game at Elks Stadium. Unfortunately an injury cut his summer short playing in just 16 games and making 54 plate appearances.  While in Kelowna he hit .352 with 19 hits, two doubles, a triple, a homerun and 15 RBIs.

Like Esposito, Dawkins also enters his senior season at Sac State next month and is healthy.  He has all the tools to improve upon last year in which he batted .340 with three homers and 29 RBIs for the Hornets.

In all there were 63 WCL alumni to be named to the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper list.

The Falcons open the 2018 season on June 1st when the Bellingham Bells come to Kelowna.  Season tickets are available now by calling the Falcons headquarters – 250-763-4100.
