Suspect in deadly Mardi Gras shooting on St. Charles Avenue arrested
A 21-year-old man accused of opening fire on Mardi Gras on the St. Charles Avenue parade route and killing a man has been arrested, officials said.Eddie Dingle was booked into the Orleans Justice Center on a charge of second-degree murder, according to Sheriff's Office jail records.The shooting was reported before 5 p.m. at Second Street and St. Charles Avenue.New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Michael Harrison said a fight broke out as the parade was rolling on St. Charles Avenue. He said several citizens tried to break up the fight and gunfire went off.Police said the victim, a man who was involved in the fight, suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Dingle was identified as the man who opened fire, police said.The victim later died at a hospital.This was the second shooting reported along the parade route on Tuesday.In the Central Business District, another fight broke out around 3 p.m. and also ended in gunfire.
