Although he’s not had his own comic since the ‘70s, Red Wolf is coming back to Marvel in a big way. Not only has the hero been making his way through Secret Wars at the moment, for the first time in nearly 40 years, he’ll have his own series—one with art provided by a Native artist.

We’ve known for a while that Red Wolf would play some part in Marvel’s “All-New, All-Different” universe since the company first revealed its teaser art for the line-wide shake up that begins next month—but it’s still surprising to see that Red Wolf is going to headline his own series as part of the more diverse lineup Marvel is championing in its new comics.

But equally surprising is that the diversity occurring behind the scenes as well (something Marvel came under fire for recently when a range of hip-hop-inspired covers was criticized for not featuring any African American artists). Writer Nathan Edmondson will be joined by Dalibor Talajić for the series’ art, but Talajić is supported by Jeffrey Veregge, who hails from Port Gamble’s S’Klallam Tribe in Washington. Aside from providing covers for the series like the gorgeous one above, Veregge has given design consultation for Red Wolf, providing the writers with insight into Native customs and traditions to avoid any cultural mishaps:

There’s not a character like Red Wolf out there right now. As a native, I’m really excited to see that he can do things, he can figure out things and stand with Captain America, and hold his own in this universe. That’s what’s awesome about it: You have all these characters of different nationalities and ethnicities, but it’s not all about their culture. It’s about them being a hero.

It’s pretty cool to see such an outlier of a comic—this version of Red Wolf is the one currently seen in the 1872 spinoff comic, but will transposed into the new “main” Marvel universe, putting him alongside the rest of Marvel’s heroes—coming as part of this shake up. Who’d have thought we’d be seeing a hero like Red Wolf alongside the likes of Iron Man, Spidey and more in 2015?

Marvel have yet to provide details on when Red Wolf #1 begins, but you can expect in the next few months as this “All-New, All-Different” reboot gets under way.
