West Metro Bee Club
Next Bee Club Meeting
Thursday, January 18, 6pm
Wayne Rusch
This month's topic: How to become a beekeeper

Wayne Rusch, from Rusch Farms, will be here to help take the mystery out of beekeeping.  Wayne and Cindy have been instrumental in helping everyone in the West Metro Bee Club learn how to become beekeepers, and how to keep a healthy hive.  They have been beekeepers for many years and currently do it full-time.  Not only do they take care of their own bees, but they also take the time to answer all of the questions that come in from our 'ask our beekeeper' emails.

Please note that Wayne will be taking orders for Nucs (bees) at the meeting.  Pricing information will be available at the meeting.

As a reminder - all beekeeping supplies are 25% off during all Bee Club meetings for our Bee Club members.

If you have any beekeeping questions, please email us at [email protected].
What should you be doing now.......

From Yuuki Metreaud

Bee hive
If your hive doesn't have enough honey, add newspaper on top of the frames, inside of the hive.  Put a good amount of regular sugar on top of the newspaper.  Make sure the newspaper does not touch the walls of the hive so the bees can get up to eat the sugar.  A spacer rim will be needed to accommodate the mound of sugar.   They can eat the sugar all winter long because it is a solid and will not freeze.  Make sure to do this on a warm, sunny day (About 30-40 degrees) and be quick.  Do not leave the hive open for more than 30 seconds or so.

Also, this is a good time to switch out moisture boards which can become saturated.
