I can’t really make any excuses for this one. I had a crush on Davy Jones when I was fourteen. It dissipated pretty quickly after that, but I kept liking The Monkees all the way through high school.
I wonder if this has anything to do with why I prefer Richard Hammond to James May or Jeremy Clarkson? Nah, probably not. They’re all goofballs. (And actually, James May seems like the most sensible one of them, though I admit that bar is pretty close to the floor.)
Anyway, this song was stuck in my head this morning while I was getting ready for work. No idea why. Now it is yours.
This is funny–Daydream Believer started playing in my head as soon as I read your post, before the video started. And there’s really quite a few Monkees songs to chose from.

I used to schedule my summers around when Monkees reruns were on TV. This song was one of my favorites!

Yes! I loved watching them in reruns in the summer. They came on after The Munsters and The Addams Family. My afternoons were SET. 😉 It was the perfect siesta to escape the Texas heat after lunch.

The Monkees had some excellent songwriters providing their material – this one is by John Stewart. I’m struggling to find a link with Clarkson, Hammond, and May (known over here as the big oaf, the little irritating one, and the boring one) … oh, I see, Davy Jones as the ‘little irritating one’, now I get it!
😀
Actually, even though both the Monkees and the Grand Tour trio are incredibly unhip, both have some wonderful moments.
