Minister of Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing Datuk Fatimah Abdullah yesterday paid tribute to the man for his concern.

Fatimah said the concern of the late chief minister had resulted in him increasing the quantum of funds to help the needy and victims of natural disasters.

“During cabinet meetings, the late Tok Nan has always shown his concern to help those in need. He approved the increased amount to help the needy and victims of natural disasters, “ Fatimah said when presenting ‘ang pows’ and hampers to 150 needy people at the community hall, here yesterday.

The function ‘Sejambak Kasih Selamat Tahun Baru Cina 2017’ was also attended by Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus.

Fatimah added that among those affected by the fund increment were those people whose houses were affected by fire.

Allocation for building materials was increased from RM2,500 to RM5,000.

In this connection, Fatimah urged community leaders and the public to help identify needy persons in their midst and report it to the Welfare Department “to enable the officers to check the type of assistance needed”.

“The Welfare Department has assistance for all races, and we will try our best to help those who are qualified.”

Fatimah also approved RM3,000 for the setting up of ‘Skuad Sayang’ in Bukit Semuja which was mentioned by John earlier in his welcoming speech.

John had said he was planning to set up the squad to help identify and help the needy people in the constituency.

“With the squad, we can work closely with the Welfare Department,” John said.
