Millie Dunn Veasey was a trailblazing U.S. Army veteran and civil rights leader. After enlisting in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps, an all-women, African American battalion, she served abroad in Europe during World War II. She later returned home to work in the civil rights movement, becoming the first female president for the NAACP in Raleigh, North Carolina and eventually marching alongside Martin Luther King Jr. at the March on Washington in 1963.
