A sloping lot and an unsightly neighboring building presented some design challenges for this Shoal Creek home featured on the 2018 Modern Home Tour. To take advantage of the right to left slope, the garage was designed on the lower level while extending the main level above to maximize the views and light through the front, Cornerstone Architectures said in a statement.

From clean-cut Scandinavian styles to sparkling chandeliers, the 2018 Austin Modern Home Tour is packed with eye candy for design enthusiasts. Readers can get a sneak peek of the tour set for Feb.24 by browsing the slideshow of Pinterest-worthy photos above. To mark the 10th annual tour, GoodLife Luxury and Modern Architecture + Design Society have scheduled a week of design and architecture-related events across the area.

The events aim to give ticket holders the opportunity to explore modern architecture in-depth with some of Austin’s leading professionals in the industry. Tickets are available here.

Here’s a breakdown of the events for Architecture + Design Week:

  • Feb. 24: “Discovering the Net Zero House” at 8:30 a.m. with Barley|Pfeiffer Architecture. Guests can grab a coffee with Peter Pfeiffer before a 9 a.m. tour of the Net Zero House and a detailed conversation about finding ultimate efficiency in air quality, light, heating and cooling.
  • Feb. 24: Self-guided home tour 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. of 15 properties with the opportunity to interact with the architects, builders and design professionals that executed the homes.
  • Feb. 25:  “Austin’s Modern Past, Present and Future,” a discussion panel on Austin modernism with Dick Clark + Associates including Mark Vornberg, Kim Power, Kris White and Jon Luce as moderator at 2 p.m.
  • Feb. 25: “Gradients of Green,” a talk by Laura Britt about the process behind creating a functional, beautiful and healthy environment with a mindful approach at 3 p.m., presented at the Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams showroom at The Domain.
  • March 1: Treehouse presents “The Smart Home - An Educational Event and Nest Giveaway,” an opportunity to learn how smart devices can help homeowners and make your home smarter at 6 p.m.
  • March 3: With Newcastle Homes and Un.box Studios, the final event takes place at 10 a.m. and is titled “If These Walls Could Talk!”. The speakers will break down the steps involved in a residential project from land acquisition, architectural design and construction to closing, decorating and maintenance, plus provide tips to ensure the most successful project possible, maximum value and (perhaps most important) peace of mind.
