LEWISVILLE, Texas (Feb. 17, 2018) –
Noah Woollweever and
Andrew Assaleh each made a B final and four more school swimming records fell on Saturday as Oklahoma Christian ended competition in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships at the Lewisville Westside Aquatic Center.
Woollweever, a freshman from Beckley, W.Va., who became the Eagles' first-ever A finalist on Friday in the 100-yard backstroke, made the B final in the 200 backstroke and twice lowered his school record, to 1:53.98 in the morning prelims, then to 1:53.64 in the B final, in which he placed fifth (13th overall).
Assaleh, a freshman from Oklahoma City, was a B finalist in the 200-yard breaststroke, setting a school record of 2:12.79 in the prelims before swimming a 2:15.49 in the final, placing him 16th overall.
In the 100-yard freestyle, OC freshman
Derek Duckworth didn't qualify for a final, but he did set a school record with a time of 47.39 seconds. He had held the former mark of 48.21 seconds.
The meet's final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay, included another OC record, as the quartet of Woollweever,
Luke Ward,
Carter Shelton and Duckworth finished fifth in 3:13.35 – an improvement of more than 15 seconds over the former mark.
OC swimmers combined to set 16 school records in the four-day RMAC meet. As expected, the Eagles finished fifth in a loaded five-team field that included three teams ranked in the top 10 in NCAA Division II. The Eagles picked up 199 team points, while fourth-place Colorado Mines had 352.5 points. No. 9-ranked California Baptist (1,064) edged No. 7 Oklahoma Baptist (1,028.5) for the team title.
The RMAC meet will be held again next year in Lewisville.
