Watch your back, Amazon Prime — 2-day shipping may soon go the way of the dinosaur. Target is officially gearing up to dominate super-speedy shipping in 2018, starting with the launch of a same-day service.

Prime, who?

Same-day delivery has been in Target's sights for a while now. They started a program called Restock in summer 2017 that delivers pantry essentials in major metro areas like Chicago and Philadelphia. Then, they upped the ante, first by acquiring the grocery-shopping start-up Shipt back in December 2017, stirring speculation about the inevitable roll-out.

Now, the wait is over. Target announced on its website that starting in February, customers will be able to stock up on essentials (grocery, toiletries, and so on) online or via the Shipt app. Instead of using a distribution center to deliver the product, your cart will be assembled by an in-store shopper and delivered to your door within hours.

Roll-out of the same-day delivery service will begin in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. If that doesn't include you, never fear — Business Insider reports that Target intends to expand the program to roughly half of its stores within the next few months. Same-day delivery will reportedly kick off in Birmingham, AL and South Florida on February 1st.
