Through the Facebook Journalism Project, we have worked with news partners around the world over the past year to identify opportunities to support the next generation of reporters. With that, we are excited to announce that we’ve partnered with the Hamburg Media School in Germany to launch its first Digital Journalism Fellowship for full-time and freelance journalists in the region.
The program is a free of cost, one-year education program in digital journalism set up by the Hamburg Media School that kicks off in November of 2018. The program’s curriculum, driven by Prof. Dr. Stephan Weichert, will include lessons on news literacy, mobile storytelling, design thinking and more. And to ensure the independence of the Digital Journalism Fellowship, an external advisory board of renowned experts was established.

This investment is the latest example of our mission through the Facebook Journalism Project to invest in organizations committed to strengthening and advancing the future of journalism and an informed community. Earlier this year, we introduced the Facebook Journalism Project Scholarship for students who aspire to pursue a career in news and media, which we hope to expand soon. We also recently announced our support of the Rory Peck Trust, a European organization that provides assistance to freelance journalists in times of crisis, through a three-year sponsorship to journalists reporting on stories from some of the toughest places in the world.
